The Magic behind Original Biscuit Bakers

The Magic behind Original Biscuit Bakers

Original Biscuit Bakers have been delighting the world with their hand-decorated gingerbreads since 1987, but have you ever wondered how the magic happens?

Based in Market Drayton, Shropshire, which is known as the Home of Gingerbread due to its historic links with ginger. Original Biscuit Bakers originally made and sold the gingerbread in their local bakery shop, The Bread Bin, alongside their bread and morning goods. Soon, the demand for their gingerbread was so high that in 1995 the bakery and shop were sold and they concentrated on the development of their gingerbread biscuits.

Original Biscuit Baker's designs all of their gingerbread biscuits in-house. They take inspiration from current product trends to design biscuits they know customers will love. They start this process by producing a single sample of each design, this starts with a stencil and once this is approved they have the technology in-house to design and cut out biscuit rollers to allow for large-scale production of our designs.

All of their biscuits begin their life in the bakery department where the raw ingredients are mixed together to produce a gingerbread paste. In the bakery, they also mix all of our sugar paste and icing colours that are used to decorate the biscuits. Once they have made the gingerbread paste this is then cut into shapes using our biscuit moulds. Once a rack of biscuits has been cut out these are then transferred to the oven room where they are baked.

All of Orginal Biscuit Baker's products are hand decorated by a team of talented staff. Hand-icing is one of the most skilled jobs within the company and staff train for a minimum of six months on this. Their products can take anywhere between 10 seconds and 4 minutes per piece to decorate. Once decorated, they are left to dry for 24 hours in a specialist drying room before they are ready to be wrapped.

All their products are individually wrapped which keeps the eight-month shelf life and these are then ready to be packed and sent out to all customers. In the packing room, they apply the finishing touches to the products such as a gift ribbon before they are packed securely to ensure they reach customers in perfect condition.

Original Biscuit Baker's future plans are to keep growing the business and to provide the world with a quality product that always raises a smile.
