Celebrating Outstanding Women in the Fine Food Sector

Within the UK’s bustling food and drink sector, exceptional women are breaking the barriers. We recognise three remarkable individuals who've carved unique paths in this competitive industry. Their inspiring stories offer insights into their business journeys, challenges, and successes.

Wellness-Turned-Business

Ella Mills, the founder of Deliciously Ella, a pioneering plant-based food & wellness brand, started her journey when she was experiencing some issues with her own health.

Her life took a turn for the better when she made the switch to a wholefood, plant-based diet. Not only did it transform her health, but it began laying the groundwork for Deliciously Ella, her now globally recognised brand!

Although faced with self-doubt as a female entrepreneur in a traditionally male-dominated field, Ella drew inspiration from the success stories of other female founders. These stories fuelled her determination to persist on her path.

"There will never be a right time, so be humble, be ready to pivot, listen to all feedback, accept that what you launch with will likely change almost unrecognisably and enjoy the ride!" Ella Mills
"It wasn’t intended to be a business, simply a personal project, but it grew quickly, the community built, and I knew I wanted to take the company as far as I could." Ella Mills

Embracing Challenges, Empowering Women

Meet Sarah Darlington, the managing director of Mrs Darlington’s, renowned for their Legendary Lemon Curd.

Challenges have been a constant companion on her journey, but Sarah's mantra remains unwavering: keep moving forward, and let your achievements do the talking.

Beyond her business success, Sarah takes pride in supporting causes close to her heart. For the past two years, Mrs. Darlington's has actively celebrated International Women's Day by supporting ‘Motherwell’, a local charity dedicated to assisting women and girls in the community.

For Sarah, the key to progress lies in self-belief, unwavering positivity, and staying focused.

“Don't say, ‘If I could, I would’. Say ‘I can, and I will’ and remember you don’t have to prove yourself all the time." Sarah Darlington
“There are always challenges but you have to smile and quietly get on with it, your record is the best way to answer any questions about your abilities.” Sarah Darlington

Redefining Leadership & Limits

Katie Wilson, the director behind Yorkshire Flapjack, one of our best-selling grab & go bars, drew inspiration from her father to kickstart her entrepreneurial journey. Her mother, however, became her guiding light, instilling resilience in tough times.

She believes that women bring a unique touch to the food industry—a blend of precision, care, and an innate attention to detail.

Katie’s leadership style revolves around teamwork. She dives into any task alongside her team, fostering a culture where everyone works together regardless of their position.

Throughout her business journey, Katie has received numerous awards, but what truly fills her with pride is creating a product that people genuinely love. To her, women’s potential in business knows no bounds.

“Don't let anything or anyone stop you! Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others. There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” Katie Wilson
“My leadership strategy is to always work as a team no matter your status in the business but at the same time know that you’re the leader which creates a great atmosphere in the workplace with everyone – and creates a level playing field to reduce any stereotypes.” Katie Wilson
